Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you are required to obtain a background check for Federal Employment or to work for a company with a contract to provide goods and/or services to the Federal Government, you will be required to bring to your appointment an ORI  (originating agency identifier) number.
  • Following fingerprinting, we will provide you with a DCN number.  You provide this DCN number to your employer.  Your employer will link the DCN number to your employee profile on the company Public Works login.  The RCMP will link the results of your background check to your employee profile. Therefore, the RCMP no longer mails out results for Federal Employment background checks.

  • All necessary documents related to your background check.
  • There must be 2 Government-issued identifications and can include your Photo Id, Passport, Birth Certificate or Permanent Resident Card

Fingerprints based criminal record checks can only be searched by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the Certified Criminal Record Check will be issued by RCMP directly. Local police stations do not issue such a certificate. As an RCMP accredited agency, our role is same as local police stations, we capture your fingerprints electronically and submit them to the RCMP directly, and RCMP will process your fingerprints application. However, we do not provide Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check, and It can only be done at a local police station.

If your application has taken longer than the indicated time and if you require an update on the status of your application, please email RCMP at CCRTIS-SCICTR@rcmp-grc.gc.ca or give a call to 613-998-6362. Please provide only the following information when you are requesting for your application status.

  • Document control number (DCN)
  • Full name

  • No, we cannot help you with Biometrics Collection. The purpose of our fingerprinting service is to obtain a Police Certificate.
  • If you received a letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Biometrics Collection is required for your permanent residence or temporary residence application (non police clearance related), then you will have to follow the instructions on the letter and contact one of the official locations. If you are in Canada, you should contact one of designated Service Canada offices (SCOs). However, our office does not maintain a list of designated Service Canada offices (SCOs), you should look up this information on the internet or contact IRCC for more details.
  • Yes, we can provide Certified Criminal Record Check which is a certified fingerprint-based criminal record search for non-criminal purposes conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Ottawa
  • The result of the Certified Criminal Record Check will be sent directly from RCMP to RECA.
